  Background

Indian civilization is the most ancient and glorious among the civilizations, which had excelled in all fields viz: astronomy, astrology, aeronautics, biology, chemistry, mathematics, physics, medicines, metallurgy etc. While expressing his astonishment regarding the glorious past, Dr. Ambedkar questions how such a developed ancient science has been lost. Further, Dr. Ambedkar points out the reason for the setback is beacuse, only a few section of the Indian society had the privilege to education and power.

When the constitution of India was framed, it was declared that untouchability was abolished (I.C. Sec 17). Reservation was allotted for the untouchable population.

The provisions allotted to the dalit population such as Abolishment of untouchability Civil Act 1955 (PCR), SC & ST Atrocities Act (1989), Special Amendment Act (1980) have remained unimplemented.

The reservation policy has deteriorated to such an extent, that all are demanding the rights. When one fourth of the National population remained untouchable and deprived of economical, political rights, it will be a mockery to say that India is a democratic country.

It is inevitable that all the socially concerned and aspiring for the national development must take initiative in this direction and give shoulder in these efforts.

In this context, Nandhanar Sevashrama Trust was formed by the socially committed and aspiring citizens for social change. It is to involve the patriotic and socially committed people and to chalk out the strategic plans and its implementation in this task.
